Body Contouring Following Bariatric
Weight Loss Surgery
Safe and reliable procedures are available for you following massive weight loss. Results are often dramatic and extremely gratifying. The latest techniques in body sculpting are tailored to each patient's specific needs and priorities. By doing so, we help you discover the new shape hidden beneath the excess skin left after your weight loss.
Hand in hand with the health benefits that come from losing weight are the not so pleasant side effects. Namely deflated empty breasts, saggy skin on your abdomen, arms and thighs and problems related to daily hygiene. Dressing or finding clothes that fit become increasingly more difficult.
This site is dedicated to helping you find solutions to these issues. The way we manage patients following massive weight loss is different from patients who seek simply cosmetic improvements in similar body regions. The elasticity of the skin is often poor or absent in weight loss patients, requiring specific techniques and careful planning. We provide you with a brief overview of the methods available and links to my other websites that provide you with more detailed information.
Here are some guidelines about when to contact our office.
- Whether you have lost weight from dieting or from bariatric surgery, the time to seek consultation for body contour improvement and rejuvenation is 3 to 6 months after your weight has been lost and you have stabilized both your weight and diet.
- The many plastic surgery procedures available to you represent the LAST step towards a better you. Your weight should be stable and not fluctuating up or down by more than 5 to 8 lbs. Think about this as doing your “homework” before your surgery – getting your weight down to whatever YOU want it to be. There is no rule book that says surgery cannot be performed until you get to a certain body weight. Please seek consultation when you are happy with whom you are, not what a chart or book says.
- Performing body contouring procedures prior to weight stabilization may result in the need for further surgery in the future.
If you are tired of looking at the excess skin and fat that is associated with your weight loss, please contact our office and book a consultation. We are specialists in this field and will do our utmost to understand what bothers you the most. After a detailed history and physical examination, we will review in detail the options available to you. Helping you understand your options is very important to us and we will always listen carefully to your wishes and desires.
